What is Triple Pass Rotary Drum Dryer

Triple pass rotary drum dryer, also known as three drum dryer, differs in structure from a single pass drum dryer. It consists of three drums of varying diameters nested together, forming three drying chambers: an inner layer, a middle layer, and an outer layer. Unlike single pass drum dryers, triple pass dryers do not require to be set on a sloped base or rely on gravity to move materials. Instead, they rely on pneumatic conveying within the drums to loosen materials to specified positions. The notable advantages of a triple pass drum dryer include shorter drum length, smaller size, lighter weight, space-saving, flexible temperature control, and versatility, making it suitable for drying various high-moisture materials such as sand, biomass, and more.

Applications of Three-Drum Dryer

Three-drum dryer is widely used in building materials industry, metallurgical industry, mineral processing industry, chemical industry, cement and other industries. How Three-Cylinder Dryer Works?

Radiation, convection, and heat conduction are mainly used in the drying process. The dryer is set at an angle to take advantage of gravity. When the hot air in the oven reaches the set temperature, the dryer works according to the order of the PC system. The wet pellets are then evenly fed into the inner layer by the feeder and carried away by the gale. The wet material is spirally conveyed through the fixed shovel plate. Next, the material moves to the other end of the oven and into the middle layer. This time, the wet powder inside leaned against the blower and moved forward, taking two steps back. In the middle layer, the heat from the inner and middle layers is fully utilized, which increases the drying efficiency to the optimum. Finally, the dried material reaches the other end of the middle layer and enters the outer layer in a rectangular and multi-loop pattern. Drying to solidify the moisture of the granular material is blown out of the dryer. The rest move more slowly due to their weight and dry again in the outer layer to the desired humidity. In this way, the drying process is realized.

The structural advantages of the zoned three-drum rotary dryer

• A triple pass rotary dryer is a modification of the single pass dryer, where instead of a single drum, three drums are nested together to reduce the overall size of the dryer. During operation, the material and hot airflow sequentially pass through the inner to outer drums. Then, they undergo a zigzag flow pattern within the dryer body, effectively utilizing heat energy to dry the material before being discharged.

• The drum of the triple pass dryer is composed of three coaxially arranged inner, middle, and outer drums, making full use of the space within the drum cross-section. Overall, the length of the drum body is approximately 30-35% of that of a single-pass drum dryer, significantly reducing the footprint and factory building area.

• The support device of the three drum dryer combines the wheel belt on the outer drum with the support roller, driven directly by the motor. The rotation of the drum is achieved through friction between the support roller and the wheel belt. The overall structure is compact, rational, and simple, featuring an axially split design for easy inspection and replacement of worn parts, secured with bolt connections.

• The triple pass rotary drum dryer is capable of drying block materials, granular materials, and powdery materials below 20-40mm. The drum is made of wear-resistant manganese plate, which is 3-4 times more durable than ordinary steel plate, effectively extending the service life of the dryer.
